We found this family site, where a lot of the
population of the Detroit River Region in the 18th and 19th century is listed.
This tremendous work (Genealogy of The French
Families of The Detroit River
Region) was done by Rev. Christian
Denissen.
See the page about Jean Baptiste CAMPEAU
or visit the
web site
(its a bit slow).
Rev. Christain Denissen must have been a "real" Denissen, as was found
in the Notre Dame Archives (probably in Paris). You find there the following
information: " Denissen, Rev. C., Detroit responds to 5744
transmitting documents about his quarrel with the Bishop.".

corresponding page.
If you now want to dig a bit in this ground,
click here for a page with some links at the end.
Since it is a link to Denis Beauregard's work, I am sure he is happy
about this link from the other side of the big pool.
I always get interested, when I read such sentences:
"be punishable by federal statutory penalties of up to $100,000.
