A little later Randy wrote: "My father was born in wisconsin, and his parents came from Holland. He (my father) was born in 1917, seven brothers and sisters. I was born in 1955 and have two brothers and one sister. I moved to Chesapeake (va) ten years ago and am the controller for the 13th largest shrimp importer in the US. I got my certification two years ago.I'm married and have an eight year old from a previos marriage."
Lindy Denissen was one of the first to contact us, even before the idea of a global Family Homepage came up. She wrote: "I am also a DENISSEN and I was told by my family that there are few of us (but that may be only in the u.s.) and I wonder if we are related. My father and his brother are sons of a man from holland (Bergen-op-Zoom, is the town). His name was william Denissen and he had several brothers and sisters (eight or nine, I think). William was the youngest and the sisters became nuns and the brothers went off to become missionaries in some far-flung countries. William went on to become a very famous chef in the United States, particularly Boston, where he settled down to have his family. He is deceased (many years ago) as I'm sure his siblings are." Some mails later: " My father is very interested in hearing from anyone who is related (even distantly). We know no other Denissen except his brother's family in the Los Angeles area." This situation meanwhile changed (ha!!) "He also said that his father's family owned an inn in Bergen-op-Zoom (or around there) and it was housed in a windmill. It was called the "Denissen Inn" and it was open for business in the early 1900's. I corresponded to the chamber of commerce in that town and they said it was no longer standing (we didn't think it was) but my father still wants to visit Holland anyway." From her aunt, Lindy heard a lot of interesting stuff, that fits with informations from Dutch "Denissen"s: "My grandfather, Willem (I never had the chance to meet either of my father's parents) was married for the first time and had one child, Martha. Then he married my father's mother and had my uncle, William, then my father, John, then my aunt, Margeruite (we call her Bonnie). They were born in 1940, 1942, and 1944 in Illinois and Boston. They lived in Boston since the children were very small. Willem died in Boston and my grandmother in a nursing home in Florida. My uncle moved to California (L.A.) and dad and my aunt moved to Florida (where their mother followed after Willem's death). Now, Martha lives in Arizona still (she is around 70 years old) so I am going to have my dad call her and see if he can find out some more information on the Denissen family as she understands it. She is his half-sister and I guess they don't talk to often, maybe a couple times a year. But she should know some "Denissen" stuff. My aunt Bonnie said that Willem was one of 13 children, although my dad had originally said 8 children (like you also thought). But Bonnie say 13, and she also said that Willem was the youngest and his mother died giving birth to him. So since the siblings were much older, they all went off and left Willem at a nunnery to be raised by nuns (some of his sisters were nuns at this nunnery). And Bonnie says that some of the brothers became missionaries (either in the Far East or Africa, she's not sure) and some of the siblings moved to Belgium."

We still have not recieved information from Wisconsin but I hope to get it in the near (Or distant, knowing my family) and will forward what I have to you.
PPS. We had our family tree traced "professionally" and recieved a lovely document that sounds wonderful but does not fit any of the known facts of the family. When we pointed out the discrepancies, they announced that they had traced us back to New York and could go no farther back and invented the rest. (They said that they had never been caught before........?) They believed that the name had been "picked" to cover up a previous "undesired" name and they had no idea what it was.
What the truth really is would be great to discover."
We received the following note from John Dennisson: "My name is John. I am the son of John Dennisson, the son of William Dennisson. I am the firstborn child among 4. I have 2 younger sisters, 2 stepsisters, and 1 halfbrother. Their names are Kelly Ann, Theresa Grace,(my 2 natural sisters), Suzy, Lindy,(my 2 stepsisters), and James, my half brother. Me and my 2 sisters Kelly and Theresa were legally adopted, when I was 12. Our last name was changed to Brunetto. When a search was done of the family name Dennissen, we were not included because of this fact. I, like my father, am interested in hearing from anyone, who is part of the family. My address is: 14 N.Summit St. Crescent City FLA. U.S.A. 32112"
Hans Denissen wrote the following question: "Hello, iam also an Denissen and wanted to ask if there ia an family arms (weapon) from the denissen. best regards Hans"
Kari Denissen: "I've always wondered where the spelling "Denissen" comes from, most people I know with this last name spell it Dennison or some other veriation. It is interesting to know that the name is Dutch! I actually am not "genetically" decended from the Denissen family as my great-grandfather who carried on the Denissen name was adopted- so I really don't know what my "true" ancestry is."
From Holland we received the following message from Judith Denissen: Hey everybody, Here a new Dutch entry. Sorry, but I can't help you out on the origin of our family name. I only know that the suffix '-sen' means 'son of'. So I guess we're all a son of Denis (that's a French first name)??? Nice to read the clan stories on the bulletin boards! Just some short info on me: My grandfather, Harrie (Henricus) Denissen, was from Udenhout in The Netherlands. He went to live in Oisterwijk with his wife Jo(hanna) Verschuren. Unfortunately they're both not around anymore. They had 5 children: Jan (my father, Johannes Wilhelmus Maria, 1948, married to Mieke Smolders); Ton; Ad; Cisca and Annie. I have a brother named Dennis. Yeah, I know, Dennis Denissen... I was born on April 3rd 1975. Dennis was bron on December 27th 1977. My parents and my brother live in Oisterwijk, I live in a village near The Hague (NL). Best regards, maybe I'll meet you sometime in the future. Until then!? Judith"
